Freeing Our Words (Den III-c)

Mixed media installation, Newham Word Festival, The Lab E20, 2023

This project looks at sound healing and vocal activation as methods to remove the barriers caused by trauma and aid recovery.

The immersive installation used recordings and soundscapes made from sound healing and vocal activation workshops, and featured a live sound bath by Katya Blackledge.

A soundscape made following a vocal activation workshop with Molly-Anne Chinner was played in the space and can be heard here.

Lottie occupied and created a den throughout this week-long group exhibition, made entirely of found and recycled materials. An accompanying public programme had the local community create textiles that were incorporated into the den.

Scaffolding (Den I-b)

In this exhibition about mental health treatment, "Scaffolding" continued Den I-a's exploration into the support needed to be "well", and provided a safe space for visitors to reflect and respond.

Selected Workshops

April 2023: Camden Council

Working with my fellow Art School Plus artists, Camden Councils Camley Street team, and a local parents group we documented the area using cyanotypes, drawing, and textiles, the results of which were displayed on billboards.

March 2023: Newham CPP, Culture Within Newham, Arts Council

A community collage workshop using photos submitted by locals exploring the colours of Newham to inform the look and feel of the Culture Within Newham brand.

2022-23: Rosetta Arts

Worked on numerous workshops ranging from sustainable textiles to pottery, and poetry. Participants included children, teenagers, adults, people with and without disabilities, and mental health needs.

August 2022: Rest Fest

Lead artist for “Rest Fest”, a week long series of community workshops for under-18s in Newham for Rosetta Arts and funded by the Mayor of London.

April 2022: RCPsych Workshop

A writing workshop exploring vulnerability and sharing.

June 2022: Margate NOW

Public workshop making terrazzo pavers to repair, encourage ownership, and enhance the well-being of the Margate Sunken Garden community.

2022: Leeds Children’s Hospital

Workshops with patients to co-create the new hospital for Art in Site.

2022: Darent Valley Children's Hospital

2022: Mad Pride: the designer asylum, Open School East Public Programme

Wonks

Wonks are protest pillows/beanbags/cuddly toy-like sculptures made using discarded material without a plan or any attempt at neatness, a particular shape, or look. Reframing “mistakes” and “imperfections” they are an embodiment of a disability justice/mad pride aesthetic, a catharsis to the harshness of existing in a neurotypical ableist society, made by an artist who is too tired to line up seams or sew straight lines.

Wonks are an act of resistance and self-care. We should no longer deny ourselves to meet the backward standards set by a society on fire. They are also completely fucking joyful, fun, weird, wonderful, and beautiful.

Design Commissions

One-off interior design, installation, and bespoke textile design for private homes, hotels, photography, film, television, festivals and events.
